How Much Value Does the City of Philadelphia Receive from its Park and Recreation System?
|
|
Altogether, the research undertaken for the Philadelphia Parks Alliance by The Trust for Public Land
shows that Philadelphia’s parks provide the city and its residents with hugh value: $23 million in city revenue;
$16 million in municipal cost savings; $729 million generated in wealth for residents; and $1.1 billion in cost savings
for citizens. That’s billion with a “b.” It’s a very big number. And it’s about 100 times the amount that the
city spends on parks each year. Read the Full Report

We are dedicated to offering insight into the fastest growing Philadelphia community. Its epicenter is Seger Park. This quaint park has something for
everyone. The offerings include quiet grassy areas for relaxing and picnicking, two kids playgrounds for all ages with well cushioned flooring, an open blacktop for an assortment of activities,
a 1st class nationally supported tennis facility, and a basketball court for all to enjoy.
The most important element of a quality city park is the surrounding community and its effort to put in their time and resources to
provide to the park what our city budget is unable to support. Private funding is critical to this park and with the support of the tennis association and friends groups abound and a true sense of unity in our
community, we are happy to report that Seger Park is doing great! We look forward to growing this central hub for Seger Park and offering more information and plan events as we, together, move forward. Please send us your thoughts to our communication email Click Here!

The Seger Playground is not the largest kids’ playground but certainly has all you need with its three clearly separated playground areas. Two are fenced off so that the very young are not impeded from the older and more active kids.
The third is in the far southwest corner of the park and also has lots of equipment for ages 8+. They can climb, slide, swing and slide again.
In addition to the great playground equipment, there is a large black top area for a variety of activities and a pair of swings for kids and the kid in all us adults.
There is a mini-splash park directly in the center of the playground. On any given warm day, you can find kids happily splashing away staying cool and being cool.
The Seger Park Playground has one of the most popular playgrounds in the city and even with its small size, it appears to always have room for the kids to play. If you have not already gotten a chance to check out this great park, you should join the fun, we know your kids will enjoy the visit.
If you have any questions, concerns or would like to donate directly to Seger Park to help maintain our wonderful public space, we can direct you to the various non-profit groups who accept these valuable donations to our great park. Please email us at communicate@friendsofsegerparkplayground.org or communicate@friendsofsegerpark.org
and we will gladly assist you in finding the groups we know are providing the greatest support to Seger Park.

The Seger Park Dog Run is a small fenced off section of Seger Park which the city has created to offer dog owning community members a
space to let their dogs exercise and socialize.
The dog run is well-known througout the neighborhood and is used extensively. There are many dog owners and dogs to meet at the Seger Dog Run.
The Seger Dog Run, as part of our city park, is open to public and free of charge to all Philadelphia citizens.
Be mindful, there has been quite a few incidents of dogs fighting with other dogs.
It is important to pay attention to the behavior of your dog and others.
